Job Description

Type: Permanent, full-time

The opportunity

A high-growth, award-winning fintech startup is looking for an IT Systems Engineer to keep the business running smoothly today — and to grow into cloud infrastructure engineering tomorrow.

This is a genuinely hybrid role with a clear progression path.

You’ll start by owning IT support and a handful of meaty systems projects, and once that’s under control (it won’t fill your week), you’ll be mentored by experienced cloud engineers to start building and running infrastructure in AWS. If you’ve got a couple of years of IT support behind you and you’re itching to move into cloud, this is a rare chance to do exactly that while getting paid to learn.

You’ll join a small, tight-knit tech squad and work with everyone in the business — from software engineers to the sales team — so warmth, patience and good communication matter as much as technical know-how.

What you’ll do

IT support & operations (roughly 20–40% of your time once up to speed)

  • Onboard and offboard users, and be the go-to person for laptops, accounts and day-to-day systems issues
  • Administer the core stack: Okta (SSO), Google Workspace, and Mac device management (MDM)
  • Support a predominantly macOS fleet (~95% Mac, with a small number of Windows users)
  • Procure and manage IT and office kit
  • Support security and ISO 27001 compliance efforts

Systems projects

  • Roll out light-touch mobile device management (e.g. managing email on phones)
  • Reconfigure how company Macs connect to the identity provider for sign-in
  • Strengthen data loss prevention (DLP) within Google Workspace

Growing into cloud (the bigger half of the role over time)

  • Learn to build and run infrastructure in AWS, mentored by senior engineers
  • Start writing Python scripts and AWS Lambda functions to automate operational work
  • Partner closely with the software engineering team as you develop

What we’re looking for

  • 2–3 years in IT support or IT operations
  • Hands‑on Mac support experience — this is essential (macOS device management / MDM)
  • Familiarity administering SaaS platforms — SSO (Okta or Microsoft Entra), Google Workspace / M365, and ideally Slack, Atlassian, etc.
  • Strong communication skills and real empathy — you’ll regularly help people who are stuck and frustrated with tech
  • A genuine desire to learn cloud and expand your skill set — prior AWS experience is not required
  • Someone who thrives in a startup environment: fast‑moving, hands‑on, happy to wear multiple hats
  • Nice to have (not essential): experience in a SaaS business or consultancy.

Why this role

  • A structured path from IT support into cloud engineering, with real mentorship rather than empty promises
  • Small team, high ownership and autonomy — the opposite of a siloed enterprise ticket queue
  • A mature, well‑run business (ISO 27001 certified, modern serverless architecture) that still moves at startup pace

Process

Three stages: an initial 30-minute call, an in-person team interview (technical + scenario-based), and a final conversation with leadership.

Please note: UK work eligibility is required; no visa sponsorship is available for this role.
