This role involves you working closely with your staff on the customer service desk so you provide the best service possible for customers.

Customer service is a requirement in most companies so there are countless organisations where you could choose to work.

Where and when can I work?

You will normally work 37 hours Monday-Friday but this could extend to weekends depending on which area you decided to work. For example, supermarkets, airports and hotels are often open late or in some cases 24 hours a day.

What can I earn?

Between £16,000 and £20,000 a year is the going rate for trainees and this can rise to £20,000 to £40,000 a year with experience.

What are the benefits?

As well as working in a close-knit team where you can make friends, there are chances of bonuses in certain trades.

Are there chances of promotion?

The more experience you have, the better your chances of progressing in to senior management or sales. As customer service skills are sort after in all industries, it is a good base to use to move into many different careers.

What will I be responsible for?

Motivating your team to ensure customer queries are answered professionally, managing crises and dealing with more serious customer complaints are top priorities as a customer service manager.

Do I need any experience?

Many customer service team members move up the ranks within an organisation to become a customer service manager. If you are going directly for a customer service manager role, sort after experience includes NVQ Level 2 or 3 in customer service and education up to degree level.

What attributes are needed?

An interest in helping customers, good communication skills, flexibility, handling complaints and an ability to supervise and motivate team members are a must.
