more details >The hotel sector is a vibrant and exciting area to work in. It offers a range of roles including manager, receptionist, cleaner, chef, event coordinator and waiter.
You can work for all types of hotels including five-star, budget or spa hotels.
The world is your oyster when it comes to where you can work in the hotel sector. It depends what type of hotel you would like to work for but most cities and towns have a big selection. The hours are normally worked in an early or late shift pattern, which often means working early in the morning and late a night. Night and weekend shifts are also part of working in the hotel sector.
This depends on which area you are interested in working. If you wish to be a receptionist, experience rather than qualifications will be relied upon but chefs would need some formal training under their belt.
A friendly, confident manner and good customer service skills are a must for any would-be hotel staff member.
It depends which job you are interested in within the sector as well as your experience, the location and size of the hotel you are working for. One example is a trainee hotel manager. In this role you can earn in the region of £13,000 - £19,000 which jumps up to anything between £25,000 - £100,000 in senior hotel management roles.
There are vast benefits. These include some hotels offering staff savings on the use of their facilities and the rewarding environment of working within a tight-colleague unit.
Progression and promotion depends on which area you wish to work in within the sector but gaining hands on experience and enthusiasm are great ways to kick-start a move up the career ladder.
The key to operating a successful hotel is to work as one unit towards the common goal of giving customers the best all round experience possible.
