Job Description

Application Support Engineer MSSQL PostgreSQL PSQL Azure - Home / Remote based - 8am - 10pm / Monday to Sunday - Shift. Temp role with a view to a permanent position

As this clients services continue to grow, they are looking for an experienced Application Support Engineer to join the UK-based team and play a key role in supporting mission-critical cloud-hosted applications used by customers worldwide.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the UK Application Support Team Lead, you will be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and enhancing cloud-hosted solutions across Azure and AWS environments. You'll provide third-line support for internally developed applications while working closely with Customer Support, Development, Architecture, and Infrastructure teams to ensure exceptional service delivery.

Key Responsibilities
Application Support
Provide third-line support for internally developed applications.
Investigate and resolve complex incidents escalated from first and second-line support teams.
Work closely with development teams to identify software defects and implement effective workarounds.
Deploy application updates, patches, and hotfixes.
Service Availability & Performance
Monitor cloud-hosted platforms to ensure compliance with service availability and performance commitments.
Proactively manage alerts, event logs, and system monitoring tools.
Lead technical investigations and recovery efforts during service disruptions.
Drive improvements to platform resilience and reliability.
Continuous Service Improvement
Identify opportunities to enhance operational processes, tooling, and service delivery.
Research industry best practices and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Support technical projects designed to improve platform performance, stability, and scalability.
Knowledge Sharing & Team Collaboration
Contribute to knowledge development across the team.
Create and maintain technical documentation.
Share expertise and support colleagues across the wider global support function.

You'll be an experienced Application Support Engineer or Cloud Support Engineer with strong troubleshooting skills and a genuine passion for technology and customer service.

Essential Skills & Experience
Proven experience supporting business-critical, cloud-hosted applications.
Strong customer service skills with the ability to act as a technical escalation point.
Excellent problem-solving and root cause analysis capabilities.
Ability to prioritise workloads effectively and manage multiple tasks.
Experience supporting production environments within AWS and/or Azure.
Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL databases.
Ability to write and optimise complex database queries.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable Skills & Experience
Knowledge of AWS services including EC2, ECS, RDS and CloudFront.
Knowledge of Azure technologies including Virtual Machines, IIS, AKS and Azure SQL.
Experience with cloud networking and infrastructure configuration.
Familiarity with GitLab CI/CD, Azure DevOps, Docker, Terraform, Bash, Packer and Ansible.
Experience maintaining Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform and Ansible.
Working Pattern

This role requires flexibility to support extended operational hours, which may include working shifts 8 hour shifts from 8am to 10pm, Monday to Sunday, as part of a team rota.
