Right across infrastructure, there’s a requirement to not only maintain, but also renew and reimagine. Whatever stage you’re at in your career, with us you’ll have an opportunity to grow and develop. Delivering essential infrastructure services for life, while being safety first, and client and customer centric in a friendly, fun and respectful environment where you are encouraged to thrive.

Where will you be working?

Telent, part of M Group, is a leading technology company and specialist in the design, build, support and management of the UK’s critical digital infrastructure.

From the roads you drive on to the networks you rely on, our solutions are embedded in the everyday lives of millions supporting the delivery of vital public services. With decades of expertise in mission-critical communications and infrastructure technology, we are at the forefront of the digital revolution.

The work we do helps connect thousands of people and communities, using the best technology and innovation available. When you join us, you’ll have the opportunity to make a real impact on all our futures by fulfilling your potential and delivering high performance. We work together to make everyday life work better for everyone.

About the role

We’re looking for a Networking Engineering Apprentice to join Telent’s Highways Division, where you will apply your existing knowledge and skills working on real projects, whilst learning new skills along the way.

You’ll gain practical experience working on a range of projects across the Highways Network while undertaking the Level 4 Network Engineering Apprenticeship.

This role will require flexibility to meet the customer needs, so it will be a hybrid role with a blend of office based, home working and some site-based activity.

What you’ll be doing

  • Work on live projects alongside experienced Engineers
  • Provide Level 2 remote technical support across network and management platforms, coordinating with NOC, operations, vendors and customers
  • Develop and support DevOps tooling and automation and orchestration technology
  • Monitor network performance, availability, and capacity, proactively identifying risks and driving service improvements
  • Lead technical escalations and incident resolution, ensuring effective communication, coordination and service restoration
  • Participate in special projects from designing, building solutions, testing and implementation
  • Maintain compliance with SLAs, security standards, and governance, while supporting documentation, lifecycle management, and continuous improvement initiatives.

What you’ll bring

  • GCSEs Grade 4/C or above in Maths and English and a Level 3 qualification in IT or equivalent
  • An understanding and genuine interest of networking, internet protocols and cyber security
  • A flair for solving complex technical issues
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, combined with proven team working and leadership abilities
  • Self-motivation, able to work on your own initiative and under pressure
  • Practical use of Microsoft Office applications
  • Full UK/EU Driving Licence

What’s in it for you?

A career at Telent provides the opportunity to work on complex, high-profile infrastructure projects that keep the UK connected and protected 24/7.

You’ll benefit from:

  • Competitive starting salary
  • 34 days annual leave which includes all public bank holidays, with option to buy/sell annual leave
  • Company pension scheme
  • Access to the flexible benefits and wellbeing support portal
  • Family-friendly policies
  • Discounts on retail, leisure, and entertainment

As a Telent Apprentice, you will also benefit from the M Group Aspire Together Programme

Alongside your apprenticeship, our structured development programme provides opportunities to build skills, gain valuable experience and grow your confidence. You'll tackle meaningful challenges, expand your capabilities and benefit from a supportive community committed to your success.

You can look forward to:

  • Tailored development experiences including three face-to-face workshops, two virtual learning sessions and a dedicated team-building event, all designed to enhance your confidence, collaboration and problem-solving skills while connecting you with colleagues from across the business.
  • Access to M Group Futures, our apprentice and graduate-led network, where you can share ideas, collaborate with peers and get involved in impactful projects that help shape the future of our business.
  • A strong support network from our Early Careers team and colleagues across M Group, providing guidance, encouragement and practical support throughout your apprenticeship journey.
  • Opportunities to become a STEM Ambassador, helping to inspire future talent while supporting our social value commitments and making a positive difference in the communities where we live and work.
  • Professional development support, with access to advice, resources and guidance to help you work towards relevant professional qualifications and achieve your long-term career goals.
