Facilities Manager – UK

Location: GCI

Contract: 22.5 hours per week

Start Date: September 2026

Role Purpose

The Facilities Manager ensures all GCI facilities operate safely, efficiently, and in alignment with the organisation’s mission. As this role directly supports ministry activities, community engagement, and volunteer teams, the postholder must be an active member of GCI, committed to its values, culture, and vision.

Key Responsibilities

• Multi‑Site Operations — Oversee day‑to‑day running of all GCI buildings, ensuring each site is prepared for weekly services, mid‑week programmes, rehearsals, and special events.
• Maintenance & Asset Care — Deliver preventative maintenance; manage repairs; maintain asset registers; ensure equipment used for worship, events, and outreach is safe and functional.
• Health & Safety Compliance — Lead compliance with UK H&S legislation, fire safety, safeguarding‑related premises requirements, and emergency procedures. Conduct regular risk assessments for staff and volunteer‑led activities.
• Volunteer Coordination — Support and coordinate volunteer teams involved in cleaning, setup, security, and event logistics. Provide clear guidance and uphold GCI’s culture of excellence and service.
• Contractor & Supplier Management — Manage external providers for cleaning, security, maintenance, waste management, and specialist services.
• Budget Oversight — Manage facilities budgets, track expenditure, and support financial stewardship in line with GCI governance.
• Event & Programme Support — Work closely with ministry leads to ensure rooms, equipment, and facilities are prepared for services, conferences, youth programmes, and community outreach.
• Project Delivery — Support refurbishment, improvement, and capital projects, working with GCI leadership, contractors, and volunteers.

Qualifications

• IWFM (Institute of Workplace & Facilities Management)certification.
• NEBOSHHealth & Safety qualification.
• Trade‑related qualifications (electrical, plumbing, building services).

Technical & Strategic Skills

• Experience withComputerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)or building automation systems.
• Ability to developlong‑term maintenance plans, capital projects, and lifecycle planning.
• Experience managinglarge or multi‑site facilities.

Soft FM Experience

• Oversight of cleaning, security, catering, grounds maintenance, and workplace services.
• Experience negotiating contracts, managing SLAs, and evaluating contractor performance.
• Experience delivering refurbishment or improvement projects.

Desirable (Nice to Have)

These add value but are not essential.

Church or Community Sector Experience

• Understanding of how churches operate (events, services, safeguarding, volunteers).
• Experience supporting large gatherings, conferences, weddings, funerals, etc.

Sustainability & Efficiency

• Knowledge of energy efficiency, sustainability initiatives, and cost‑saving strategies.
• Experience improving workplace comfort and user experience.

Additional Skills

• First Aid training.
• Experience with accessibility standards and inclusive building design.
• Ability to produce reports, dashboards, or compliance summaries.
