Job Description

SEN Support Assistant

Mainstream Primary School (KS1)

Location: Wakefield & surrounding areas Contract: Full-time, term-time only

We are seeking dedicated SEN Support Assistants to work 1:1 with children in KS1 within mainstream primary schools. These roles are based in on‑site SEN provisions, supporting pupils with a range of additional needs including communication differences, Autism, ADHD, and social‑emotional needs.

You will provide consistent, nurturing and structured support to a KS1 pupil, helping them access learning, regulate emotions and develop confidence. Working within the school's SEN provision, you'll collaborate closely with class teachers, SENCOs and wider support teams to ensure the child's needs are met throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities

1:1 SEN support - delivering personalised strategies to help the child engage and succeed

Implement routines, visual supports and behaviour plans

Support communication, emotional regulation and sensory needs

Adapt learning tasks to ensure accessibility and success

Encourage independence, resilience and positive relationships

Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals

Provide feedback and observations to contribute to progress reviews What We're Looking For

Experience supporting children with special educational needs, ideally in KS1

Confidence working with pupils with Autism, ADHD, or communication needs

Strong understanding of SEN strategies and inclusive practice

Patience, empathy and a calm, consistent approach

Ability to build trusting relationships with children

Good communication and teamwork skills

Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one) What the School Offers
