Workshop Controller

Job Description

Our client, an established automotive dealership in Chelmsford, Essex, is looking to appoint a highly skilled Workshop Controller to oversee their busy service department. The Workshop Controller will play a crucial role in managing workshop operations, ensuring efficient workflow, and maintaining high standards of vehicle repair and servicing.

Duties of a Workshop Controller

  • Coordinate daily workshop activities to ensure efficient vehicle processing
  • Allocate work to technicians based on skills, experience, and workload
  • Monitor progress of repairs and services to ensure deadlines are met
  • Liaise with the Aftersales Manager regarding workshop capacity and operational issues
  • Communicate regularly with customers, providing updates and managing expectations
  • Oversee job card administration and workshop documentation for accuracy
  • Ensure all work is completed to quality standards before vehicle release
  • Collaborate with the Parts Department to maintain necessary parts and resources
  • Support health and safety procedures within the workshop environment
  • Monitor technician productivity and support continuous process improvements
  • Assist the Aftersales Manager in maintaining an organised, efficient, and customer-focused workshop

Requirements of a Workshop Controller

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar role, such as Workshop Controller, Service Advisor, or Senior Technician
  • Strong understanding of vehicle servicing, diagnostics, and repairs
  • Excellent organisational and time-management abilities
  • Effective communication skills with colleagues and customers
  • Capable of prioritising multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
  • Proactive problem-solving approach
  • Good IT skills for maintaining job records and documentation
  • Full UK driving licence
