A growing engineering business operating within the energy and industrial sectors is seeking a Mechanical Applications Engineer to join its expanding team. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineering professional to support the development of innovative solutions across a range of technically challenging projects within emerging and sustainable industries.

The Role

As a Mechanical Applications Engineer, you will support sales and business development activities by developing technical concepts, engineering solutions, and commercial proposals. Working closely with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders, you will play a key role from initial enquiry through to project award and launch.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce preliminary engineering calculations and technical solutions for a range of engineered products and systems.
• Review customer specifications, drawings, and industry standards.
• Prepare technical documentation, sketches, and purchase specifications to support costing activities.
• Liaise with suppliers and specialist subcontractors to obtain technical and commercial information.
• Coordinate and manage internal and external cost estimates.
• Develop detailed technical and commercial proposals.
• Identify customer requirements and recommend suitable engineering solutions.
• Attend customer meetings and provide technical support throughout the bid process.
• Compile and maintain accurate commercial and technical bid documentation.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and engineering best practices.
• Keep up to date with industry developments, standards, and technologies.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess:

• A minimum of 2 years' experience within Applications Engineering, Technical Sales, or a similar engineering role.
• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including thermodynamics, applied mechanics, and heat and mass transfer concepts.
• Experience working within industrial, manufacturing, energy, process, or related engineering sectors.
• Ability to interpret technical specifications and engineering drawings.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to produce engineering calculations.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Commercial awareness and a customer-focused mindset.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines.

Qualifications

Essential:

• HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Desirable:

• Degree-qualified engineer (Mechanical or related discipline).

Additional Requirements

• Full UK driving licence.
• Willingness to travel throughout the UK and overseas when required.
• Flexible approach to supporting business and customer needs.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
