Database Administrator

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Database Administrator to join our existing operations and production team. You will be responsible for the monitoring, maintenance, and optimisation of critical customer production databases.
In addition to this, you will use your extensive database design and development skills to analyse our current data storage, provide suggestions to improve the performance and maintainability and then work closely with our developers to support the on-going software development process in multiple environments.
Hours of work: Flexitime available, core hours of 10am – 3pm Monday – Friday must be worked, and you must work 37.5 hours per week.
Key Skills and Experience:
Excellent knowledge of database design, data governance, information security, backup, and recovery best practices
Excellent troubleshooting skills
Extensive knowledge of T-SQL, SSIS and SSRS
Strong verbal and written communication skills
A curiosity for new technologies and techniques, and actively keeping yourself up to date
Ability to understand, diagnose and investigate legacy database designs
Experience in an environment using SQL, Stored Procedures and Entity Framework to access data
Experience working closely with a software development team with understanding of the software development lifecycle
Comfortable monitoring and supporting many critical production databases
The ideal candidate will have (by no means essential):
Experience working with SentryOne
Familiarity with NoSQL databases, e.g. MongoDB
Experience with other relational database types, e.g. postgres, MySQL
Familiarity with distributed search/analysis engines, e.g. Elastic stack
Working as part of an Agile team
Experience working in a micro-service architecture
In return, we will provide:
Hybrid working with offices available in York if you want to come in. You need to work from the office one day per week with one day being our mandatory Thursday which is the last Thursday before payday.
