The Opportunity

We are working with a leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to join its Building Structures team in Edinburgh or Glasgow.

You’ll have the opportunity to work on projects across Scotland and the wider UK, delivering innovative, sustainable and technically challenging engineering solutions across a broad range of sectors.

The project portfolio includes aviation, education, healthcare, residential, energy, transport, public infrastructure, industrial and defence, giving you the chance to broaden your experience rather than being tied to a single sector.

You’ll be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design, construction support, site inspections and assessment of existing assets.

The Role

As a Senior Structural Engineer, you’ll take an active role in the technical delivery of a diverse range of building structures projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing structural concepts through to detailed design.
• Applying your technical expertise across a range of building structures and design scenarios.
• Designing structures using traditional materials including steel, concrete, timber and masonry.
• Delivering projects within agreed programme, cost and quality requirements.
• Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
• Undertaking technical research, data collection and analysis.
• Preparing and presenting technical findings and solutions to clients and project stakeholders.
• Producing high-quality technical reports and design documentation.
• Attending site visits, inspections and design team meetings.
• Supporting technical reviews and assessments of existing buildings and assets.
• Ensuring compliance with relevant quality assurance procedures.
• Working in accordance with BIM standards and project-specific digital delivery requirements.
• Supporting, mentoring and developing junior and less experienced engineers.
• Taking responsibility for elements of project delivery appropriate to your experience.
• Contributing to the development of new and innovative engineering approaches.

About You

You’ll be a technically strong and proactive Structural Engineer who enjoys solving complex engineering problems and working collaboratively with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

Essential

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
• Chartered status with IStructE, ICE or an equivalent professional body - essential.
• Strong experience working as a Structural Engineer within a consultancy or similar environment.
• Experience designing structures using steel, concrete, timber and/or masonry.
• Good knowledge and practical application of Eurocodes.
• Experience working on building structures projects.
• Strong technical, analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative and manage your own workload.
• A flexible and versatile approach, with an interest in both design and technical advisory work.
• A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for sharing ideas and knowledge.

Desirable

Experience with structural analysis and design software such as:

• Tekla Structural Designer
• Robot
• Revit

An interest in digital engineering, automation and parametric design would also be advantageous, alongside a willingness to learn and adopt emerging technologies.

Location

Edinburgh or Glasgow

The role offers flexibility to work from either office, with opportunities to collaborate with teams across Scotland and the wider UK. Some travel between offices and to project sites may be required.
