Perl Developer

Our client, a leading organisation in the technology and financial data sector, is seeking a Perl Developer to join its permanent Data Services team. This backend development role focuses on building and maintaining applications that retrieve, process and deliver data from thousands of global financial sources into a reliable service pipeline.Working at the centre of the data acquisition function, you will help ensure data is retrieved accurately and efficiently for use across accounting software, order management systems, data warehouses and other third-party applications. The role also offers the opportunity to work with artificial intelligence and AI-assisted development tools as part of the daily engineering workflow.Key Responsibilities:Automate the accurate and timely retrieval of data from a wide range of financial services sources using common internet protocolsBuild, maintain and extend Perl applications, processes and workflows that support data acquisitionImprove the performance, maintainability, scalability and accuracy of existing systemsInvestigate faults, analyse data issues and resolve complex production problemsWork directly with data providers on production issue resolution and environment upgradesCollaborate with development and managed services teams to design, build, test and deploy system enhancementsIdentify product bugs, recommend new features and translate business requirements into effective technical solutionsDocument work clearly and contribute to a collaborative culture focused on learning, knowledge sharing and transparencyJob Requirements:Professional experience developing Perl solutions in production environmentsStrong understanding of object-oriented Perl, CPAN modules and clean, maintainable and testable codeProficiency with AI coding agents, such as Claude Code or equivalent toolsConfidence using AI-assisted development tools as part of a daily backend development workflowUnderstanding of the DOM and web automation principlesExperience with Linux file handling and basic system commandsFamiliarity with standard protocols, including SSH, HTTPS, IMAP and POP3Knowledge of SQL, particularly PostgreSQL, source control such as Git, CI/CD and automated testingDesirable Skills:Experience with Selenium WebDriver or other web automation softwareKnowledge of Java, Ruby or Python, or a willingness to develop these skillsUnderstanding of financial data services, data acquisition or service integrationStrong analytical, fault-finding and problem-solving abilitiesClear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical and business teamsBenefits:Opportunity to work on high-impact financial data acquisition systemsExposure to artificial intelligence and modern AI-assisted development practicesCollaborative environment with opportunities for learning and knowledge sharingInvolvement in projects supporting global financial institutions and third-party integrationsOpportunity to contribute to additional development projects using Java, Ruby or Python
