Senior Network Engineer

Operational and Technical Director (& Founder) at Exa Networks

We are seeking a new colleague to join our team based in Bradford (BD1 4DE) to participate in the design and implementation of high-performance solutions, lead technical problem resolution, and support junior engineers, all while playing a key role in shaping our network and client-facing projects.

Please note that this role is only to be offered for candidates willing or able to work at our main Bradford office. The position requires close collaboration with colleagues and other departments, and we’re unfortunately unable to offer remote working for this role.

The role is not restrictive. If you may want to develop other skills for your career, we offer our employees to spend half a day a week on their personal development.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate the delivery of Exa Networks Technical Strategy and objectives
• Assist with the design of complex bespoke solutions for our customers and business operations
• Conduct documented research, evaluate and develop new technologies and solutions, to be introduced into the organisation's product and services portfolio in line with customer and operational requirements
• Identify and implement automation opportunities in collaboration with other teams
• Participate to the evaluation of the technical capability of Network Engineers
• Proactively investigate detected/raised network impacting issues and events
• Document standard operating procedures and review training materials
• Monitor and proactively take actions to ensure the good network performance
• Proactively maintain and update the information in our internal systems
• To provide emergency support cover, where required
• To observe and adhere to Exa Networks’ policies and procedures to support our ISO 9001 and 27001 policies and procedures
• Act as an escalation point for queries within the Network Team and interdepartmentally, assisting colleagues where required

Qualifications

• A good sense of humour, a respect for difference!
• A willingness to understand technologies and innovate
• In-depth knowledge of routing protocols (e.g. BGP, EPVN, ISIS and OSPF) at least at CCNP skill level
• Strong organisational and troubleshooting skills
• Have the right to work in the UK
• Familiarity with virtualisation of network functions
• Familiarity with Unix/Linux administration
• Understanding of Unix Based networking (XDP, VPP)
• RFC level understanding of protocols (in particular BGP)
• Experience with Metro Ethernet/DWDM
• Knowledge of ISO 27001 and network security standards
• Understanding of web filtering solutions
• Experience in telecoms/network engineering environments
