Senior Platform Engineer

  • Hybrid

Job Description

Join a fast-growing UK engineering powerhouse focused on turning advances in sensing, AI, and communications into real-world capability at the edge, where connectivity can be degraded or denied.

High-impact role shaping the engineering platform that powers how products are developed, deployed, and operated - accelerating delivery, elevating security, and improving developer experience across the organisation.

The role overview - Senior Platform Engineer

You’ll help design and deliver the internal developer platform (IDP) and core infrastructure that enable teams to build, integrate, and ship software with speed, consistency, and security.

Working closely with Software, Infrastructure, ML, IT, Product, QA, and Security, you’ll turn platform strategy into practical, reusable capabilities and standards that teams can adopt confidently.

What you will be doing

  • Designing, building, and operating core platform services and infrastructure.
  • Developing IDP capabilities including self-service provisioning and streamlined deployment workflows.
  • Building secure, efficient CI/CD pipelines and release workflows.
  • Enabling API-first, interoperable architectures across internal systems and external partners.
  • Supporting distributed integration patterns (event-driven and service-based communication).
  • Implementing infrastructure-as-code and automation for repeatability and scale.
  • Embedding security-by-design, compliance, and zero-trust principles into the platform.
  • Elevating observability: logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and SLO-driven operations.
  • Contributing modular, composable platform components and standards.
  • Onboarding teams onto the platform with documentation, enablement, and guidance.
  • Continuously improving developer experience and reducing cognitive load.

What we are looking for

  • Solidexperience building and operating cloud-based platforms.
  • Deep understanding of platform engineering principles, including infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, system design, and service integration.
  • Experience designing and working with APIs and building integration layers between systems.
  • Experience with tools such as Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, and modern CI/CD platforms.
  • Experience with cloud and bare-metal deployments.
  • Understanding of modular platform design and composable architectures.
  • Familiarity with observability tooling (e.g. logging, metrics, tracing) and building reliable systems.
  • Knowledge of secure-by-design and zero-trust principles.
  • Solid software engineering fundamentals (e.g. Python, Go, or similar) to build platform tooling and automation.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams and contributing to shared technical outcomes.

About you

  • Mission-focused: motivated by enabling others to deliver meaningful outcomes.
  • Relentless ownership: you see complex problems through to resolution.
  • Collaborative and trusted: you build alignment across diverse teams.
  • Quality-driven and pragmatic: robust, scalable, maintainable solutions that work in practice.
  • Curious and adaptive: you learn fast and embrace approaches that add value in fast-moving areas.
  • Focus on the end user: the best possible outcome for the users
  • Pace: the problems we solve are urgent

What's in it for you?

  • Shape the foundations of a next-generation engineering platform with direct, visible impact.
  • Work across a wide technical surface area - cloud, containers, networking, security, observability, and developer experience.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary experts solving demanding, real-world problems.
  • Flexible, inclusive, hybrid work culture with support for different working needs.

The package

  • Permanent, full-time
  • Hybrid: Bristol, UK - flexible 3 days weekly
  • Salary: £70,000-£90,000 per year
  • Discretionary performance bonus
  • Twice annual salary reviews
  • Plus a competitive benefits package aligned to a modern engineering organisation
