Job Purpose:
As a Senior Scientist in our Advanced Materials team, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of materials science. We're on the lookout for a passionate individual to lead R&D and consultancy projects across diverse sectors such as aerospace, defence, nuclear energy, net-zero, healthcare, and more, with an opportunity to work directly with the client to identify and solve materials challenges in the industry.
Responsibilities:
Lead technical scoping activities.
Serve as the project-specific technical lead, managing work assignments, client updates, presentations, and report writing.
Develop innovative processing and testing procedures, including custom processing and testing rigs.
Qualifications:
PhD or Master's in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or Chemistry with industry experience
Experience:
Proficiency in at least two of the following areas:
Advanced ceramic powder processing, characterisation, and forming.
Production and analysis of ceramic slurries, including rheology techniques.
Thermal analysis techniques (TGA, DSC, thermal conductivity)
Operation and configuration of furnaces for advanced ceramic processing
High-temperature inorganic chemistry
Ceramic composite systems
Knowledge of non-oxide ceramic systems
Familiarity with health and safety requirements and procedures for materials R&D facilities
Knowledge/Skills:
Needs a rigorous scientific approach while also being willing to experiment with novel ideas.
Knowledge in material characterisation techniques such as microstructural analysis, thermal and mechanical properties.
Proficiency in planning and designing experiments.
Exceptional communication skills both written and oral, proficient in writing proposals and reports.
Ability to work as part of a team to resolve any challenges that may arise.
Skilled in mentoring the junior members of the team.
Additional Requirements:
Applicants must have been in the UK for the past 5 years and be eligible for security clearance.
