Job Description

Portfolio Payroll are supporting a respected organisation in Liverpool who are looking to appoint a Payroll Specialist on a long‑term fixed‑term contract. This role sits within a supportive Payroll and People Services function and would suit someone confident across the full payroll cycle who enjoys delivering an accurate, compliant and customer‑focused service.

About the Role

Working as part of a collaborative HR & Payroll team, you'll take ownership of monthly payrolls, maintain high‑quality data, and ensure employees are paid correctly and on time. You'll also support statutory reporting, pension administration, and continuous improvement across payroll processes.

Key Responsibilities

End‑to‑end payroll across multiple monthly cycles

Interpreting, checking and inputting payroll documentation, expenses, timesheets and overtime

Technical payroll advice to staff and managers

GDPR, HMRC, pensions and statutory requirements

Month‑end & year‑end reconciliations and reporting

Pension administration multiple schemes including auto‑enrolment

Statutory documents P45s, P60s, maternity/paternity/shared parental calculations

Cross‑team collaboration with HR and wider People Services

Ideal Candidate

Strong understanding of statutory payroll requirements

Confident administering pension schemes and reconciliations

Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables)

Comfortable communicating complex payroll information

Strong customer mindset and excellent interpersonal skills

Able to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines

Experience with HR & Payroll systems desirable

Knowledge of NHS pay/pensions or international payrolls beneficial
