Hardware Engineer

Job Description

A highly respected engineering organisation developing advanced electronic systems for safety-critical and high-reliability applications is seeking Senior and Principal level Hardware Engineers to join their growing hardware team.This role is ideal for engineers with a strong background in schematic capture and PCB design, looking for varied, technically challenging work across complex product development programmes.Candidates from automotive, defence, aerospace, rail, or other regulated industries are strongly encouraged to apply.The RoleYou will play a key role in the design and development of electronic hardware at board level, working across the full product lifecycle – from concept through to integration and delivery.This is a varied role offering exposure to multiple projects and technologies, with opportunities to lead design activities and mentor junior engineers at senior and principal level.Key responsibilities include:Design and development of electronic circuits and PCB schematics for complex systemsOwnership of hardware design activities from requirements through to validationUse of industry-standard CAD tools for schematic capture and PCB designSupporting system integration and hardware bring-up activitiesEnsuring compliance with relevant industry and regulatory standardsContributing to design reviews and technical decision-makingLeading work packages and mentoring engineers (Senior / Principal level)Key Skills & ExperienceWe’re looking for engineers with strong hardware design fundamentals and experience in schematic capture:Proven experience in schematic design for PCB-based electronic systemsStrong background in component-level design (analogue and/or digital circuits)Experience using CAD tools such as Siemens Expedition (Mentor Graphics) or similar (e.g. Altium, Cadence, OrCAD)Understanding of full hardware development lifecycleExperience with signal integrity, EMC, and power design considerationsFamiliarity with testing, debugging, and validation of hardware designsAbility to translate requirements into detailed electronic designsDesirable (but not essential):Experience in safety-critical or regulated industriesExposure to FPGA, microprocessors, or embedded systemsKnowledge of high-speed design or mixed-signal systemsAbout YouYou will be a proactive and technically strong engineer who enjoys working in a collaborative environment:Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or similarStrong problem-solving skills and ability to work on complex design challengesCapable of working independently and within multidisciplinary teamsEffective communicator with the ability to influence technical decisionsDemonstrates initiative, professionalism, and commitment to deliveryPrincipal-level candidates will also bring:Experience leading projects or technical workstreamsMentoring or coaching junior engineersStrong ownership of design decisions and delivery outcomesWhat’s on OfferWork on complex, high-reliability electronic systemsA varied project environment with cutting-edge technologiesClear career progression into technical leadership rolesSupport for professional development and Chartership (CEng)Competitive salary and benefits package
