About the team

Porterbrook’s digital services team are responsible for developing digital capability, helping customers and the wider industry use data analytics to drive improvements in train services and reliability.

About the role

A great opportunity for an exceptional Performance & Reliability Engineer, to join the Porterbrook team.

Key responsibilities

Analyse the output of Remote Condition Monitoring (RCM) systems, translating data into engineering action across all of Porterbrook’s digitally enabled assets

Working with our engineering team and our customers to recommend and implement maintenance interventions as determined by the RCM data

Be the focal point for our customer interaction on the day-to-day analysis and management of the RCM data

Working with our customers and the supply chain, supporting the creation and refinement of event detection algorithms

Developing a suite of customer use cases using the output of RCM systems to enable further adoption of digital technology

Working with the wider team, support the development of new digital products and services

Development and tracking of KPIs to track the successful implementation of new digital products and support the creation of business cases for future investment in this area, in support of the Principal Performance & Reliability Engineer

Becoming a subject matter expert on Porterbrook’s digital systems and support the wider team with technical queries

Working with IT to understand cyber security and compliance elements when applying digital technology

About you

General Requirements:

Knowledge of RCM systems and techniques, and how to develop them to deliver tangible benefits to asset performance and process efficiencies

Strong analytical skillset with the ability to analyse large complex datasets

Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex terminology into simple, readily understood language

Commercial awareness and experience of developing business cases

Experience of launching new products/systems and an awareness of the associated challenges and opportunities

Understanding of vehicle maintenance, overhaul, and modification requirements

Background in rolling stock maintenance, operations and/ or fleet management coupled with an understanding of rail depot environments

Skills / Experience

What you’ll need to have:

Degree, HND or HNC qualification in an Engineering discipline

Knowledge of railway industry rolling stock, organisations, and key players

Understanding of condition-based maintenance and Reliability-Centred maintenance

It would be great if you also had:

Excellent communication and stakeholder management

Confident and personable, able to influence others and build genuine personal relationships

Report writing, presentation and record keeping

Problem-solving and ability to analyse datasets

Good articulation of technical requirements (producing queries, building products etc.)
