Job Description

Overview

A vacancy is being created for a Financial Controller for a successful family-owned company in the transport sector. The position will be responsible for managing a small finance team and will report to the directors.

Responsibilities

  • Managing a small finance team and reporting to the directors.
  • Producing monthly management accounts, and running a weekly payroll, using Sage50 Accounts and Sage50 Payroll.
  • Correspondence with HMRC including PAYE submissions and VAT Returns.
  • Liaise closely with the company’s financial accountants, who will complete statutory accounts.
  • Although the final accounts output is on Sage, some of the accounting functions also use other industry specific software. Training will be given with regard to these applications, and you will be expected to work with other accounts team members to learn more about this, and how they integrate into Sage.
  • As well as the FC over-arching role, the FC should be well versed in aspects of Sage Bookkeeping and be able to step in and cover for bookkeeping tasks when necessary.
  • Undertake any other ad-hoc tasks within a financial remit which may be required from time to time.
  • This new role will be an important part of the company’s management team.

Hours

Hours are up for discussion and could range from Part Time (24 hours per week) to Full Time (40 hours per week).

Salary

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The Company

The Limited Company is an award-winning family run public transport company which was set up in 1961 and has grown into the successful business it is today.

It employs almost one hundred staff – both full and part time, over various roles. Staff retention is incredibly good. The company values its people, and the Directors believe that these people are what has made the business what it is today, in terms of success and customer service. We are an equal opportunity employer. We will not discriminate directly or indirectly in recruitment or employment because of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, pregnancy, maternity, race (which includes colour, nationality and ethnic or national origins), sexual orientation, religion or belief, or because someone is married or in a civil partnership.

This vacancy will give the successful applicant the chance to be part of this winning team, and help drive the company forward, delivering timely, accurate accounts data on which decisions may be made.

The Candidate

Either qualified or studying for an accounting qualification. Or someone qualified by relevant experience would be considered.

At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role, with some management experience would be advantageous.

It will be important to have a presence in the office to build a strong finance team. However, some working remotely could be agreed from time to time, although this will not be the norm.

To Apply

Please apply in writing detailing your qualifications and experience. Please advise current salary and salary expectations for this role, and at least two referees. No references will be sought until after first interview and then only if you have been shortlisted for the position. Send your CV to Andrew Scott by emailing
