Learning Support Assistant

We are recruiting for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant   to join a small therapeutic education provision in Thetford. This rewarding role is ideal for someone who thrives on building positive relationships and supporting young people who may have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), or have experienced challenges within mainstream education.

Working as part of a nurturing and therapeutic team, you will play a key role in helping students develop confidence, emotional resilience, engagement, and independence.

The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant / Mentor, you will provide tailored support to students both inside and outside the classroom. You will work closely with teaching staff and therapeutic professionals to help create a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment where every student can succeed.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant, Support Worker, Youth Worker, Mentor, or anyone with a strong background supporting vulnerable young people.

Key Responsibilities

Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with SEMH and SEND needs

Build positive, trusting relationships with young people to encourage engagement and personal development

Support students with learning activities, emotional regulation, and social development

Implement behaviour support strategies using a trauma-informed and relational approach

Assist in creating a calm, structured, and therapeutic learning environment

Encourage students to develop independence, confidence, and self-esteem

Support the delivery of personalised learning and intervention programmes

Work collaboratively with teachers, families, and external professionals

Monitor, record, and report on student progress and wellbeing

Promote safeguarding and student welfare at all times
