Control Systems Engineer

We are working with a growing specialist engineering business that designs and builds bespoke special-purpose machinery for customers across the UK and internationally.

They are looking for an experienced Electrical Controls Engineer to join their Technology team, working across the full project lifecycle from electrical design and PLC programming through to machine build, testing and installation.

The Role

You will be responsible for:

• Designing electrical control systems for special-purpose machinery
• Producing electrical drawings and schematics
• PLC programming, modification and diagnostics
• Electrical fault finding and troubleshooting
• Designing and developing machinery safety systems
• Supporting machine build, installation and commissioning
• Carrying out electrical modifications and site assessments
• Supporting electrical component selection and procurement
• Updating legacy drawings and supporting continuous improvement
• Working closely with mechanical design, production, maintenance, customers and suppliers

About You

We're looking for an electrical engineer with:

• Strong industrial electrical engineering experience
• Practical wiring and control panel building experience
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
• Experience reading and creating electrical schematics
• PLC programming and diagnostics experience
• Experience with 2D CAD / electrical design software
• EPLAN experience would be advantageous
• Good understanding of machinery and automation
• Relevant NVQ, HND, BTEC or Degree qualification
• 18th Edition would be advantageous

You should be a practical problem solver who is comfortable working independently and as part of a small team.

The Opportunity

This is a varied hands-on engineering role where you'll be involved from concept and design through to commissioning and customer installation.

There will also be some international travel, typically 1–3 times per year, with destinations including Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and North America.
