Role Overview

We are looking for an experiencedFaade or Structural Engineerto join our growing team in Scotland.

This is a senior technical engineering position for someone with strong practical experience of existing buildings, faades and/or structural engineering. The role will involve working across faade, structural and building safety projects, including intrusive investigations, external wall assessments, Single Building Assessments, defect investigations and remediation.

The role combines office-based engineering with regular site-based investigation.

Experience working with Scottish residential buildings, particularly high-rise and multi-occupancy buildings, would be highly advantageous.

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification in Fire , Structural, Faade, Architectural or Building Engineering
  • Chartered status or progression towards chartership is desirable
  • Relevant professional membership such as CEng, MIStructE, MICE, MCIOB, CABE, RICS or CWCT is advantageous
  • Experience in faade engineering, external wall systems, structural assessment, intrusive surveys and/or building remediation
  • Strong understanding of Scottish Building Standards and Technical Handbooks
  • Ability to combine engineering calculations and judgement with practical site observations
  • Experience producing technical reports, specifications, scopes of work and remediation recommendations
  • Strong communication skills with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Comfortable undertaking intrusive site investigations and willing to travel across Scotland and the wider UK

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and undertake faade, structural, and building safety investigations of existing buildings
  • Carry out and oversee intrusive surveys, opening-up works, structural inspections and condition surveys
  • Assess external wall systems, cladding, insulation, cavity barriers, fire stopping, support systems, fixings, balconies, and faade interfaces
  • Provide practical structural engineering support and engineering judgement
  • Support and lead engineering elements of Single Building Assessments and external wall investigations
  • Work with fire engineers to assess relevant fire safety interfaces
  • Develop practical, proportionate, and buildable remediation solutions
  • Prepare technical reports, calculations, specifications, scopes of work and remediation recommendations
  • Manage projects from initial instruction through investigation, assessment, design, and remediation
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, local authorities and multidisciplinary teams
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers, technicians, and site investigation teams
