Switchgear Engineer

Job Description

Futures recruitment are looking to appoint and experienced Switchgear Engineer to join an established UK engineering and manufacturing business.

This is an excellent opportunity for an electrically biased engineer with experience in LV switchgear, switchboards, control panels or associated electrical equipment to join a growing engineering team.

The role will give you responsibility across the full engineering lifecycle, from reviewing customer specifications and developing electrical designs through to supporting manufacture, testing and final delivery.

As a Switchgear Engineer, you'll be responsible for developing technically compliant and practical switchgear solutions while working closely with customers, project teams, production, procurement and suppliers.

Key responsibilities will include:

Reviewing customer specifications, technical schedules and project requirements.

Designing and engineering LV switchgear, switchboards and associated electrical equipment.

Producing and reviewing single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and general arrangement drawings.

Selecting appropriate electrical components, including ACBs, MCCBs, MCBs, contactors, CTs, metering equipment and protection devices.

Supporting busbar sizing, fault-level requirements, short-circuit withstand and equipment ratings.

Producing bills of materials and maintaining accurate technical documentation.

Ensuring designs are practical, safe and suitable for manufacture.

Providing technical support to production and assembly teams throughout the build process.

Investigating and resolving engineering issues identified during manufacture or testing.

Liaising with customers and suppliers to resolve technical queries and agree design requirements.

Supporting inspection, testing and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).

Ensuring designs meet relevant electrical standards and internal quality requirements.

Identifying opportunities to improve existing designs, standardise products and improve manufacturing efficiency.

What We're Looking For

An HNC, HND, degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

Previous experience designing or engineering LV switchgear or switchboards.
