Job Description

We're looking for an SAP Basis Engineer to join the Core Banking Enablement value stream within Core Banking CIO and help deliver change across the organisation's SAP landscape. As an SAP Solution Manager specialist, you'll help design, implement and evolve the monitoring, alerting and change management capabilities that underpin our critical SAP estate.

Working across strategic programmes and platform transformation initiatives, you'll enhance SAP Solution Manager capabilities including Technical Monitoring, Business Process Monitoring, alerting, diagnostics and Change Request Management.

As Nationwide transitions from SAP Solution Manager to SAP Cloud ALM, you'll play an important role in introducing and adopting new capabilities across implementation and operations. You'll contribute to the evolution of our SAP Application Lifecycle Management tooling, helping establish modern approaches to observability, engineering effectiveness and change governance across our SAP platforms.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon or London office. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here .

What you'll be doing

As an engineer within our SAP Basis team, you'll deliver technical change across the SAP platforms that underpin a range of important services at Nationwide. Alongside broader SAP Basis engineering responsibilities, you'll act as a subject matter expert for SAP Solution Manager, delivering enhancements across Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure, Technical Monitoring and Change Request Management.

You'll work closely with engineers, architects, infrastructure teams, application specialists and delivery teams to design and implement platform enhancements, monitoring capabilities and operational tooling. You'll contribute to upgrades, migrations, technical implementations, automation and other strategic initiatives across the SAP estate.

As we prepare to transition from SAP Solution Manager to SAP Cloud ALM, you'll help assess, develop and introduce new Application Lifecycle Management and monitoring capabilities. You'll ensure new solutions are designed effectively, integrated with the wider technology estate and transitioned successfully to the teams responsible for running them.

About you

We're looking for an experienced SAP Engineer with a strong background in SAP Basis administration and a good understanding of SAP operational management tooling. You'll bring specialist expertise in SAP Solution Manager, along with an interest in the adoption of SAP Cloud ALM and modern observability capabilities.

You'll enjoy solving technical problems, delivering platform change and improving monitoring, change governance and Application Lifecycle Management capabilities. You'll be comfortable working across engineering and delivery teams, taking technical requirements through design, implementation, testing and transition into service.

You'll have

SAP Basis engineering: Proven experience working as an SAP Basis Engineer across large-scale, business-critical SAP landscapes

SAP platform lifecycle management: Strong experience in SAP system administration, installations, upgrades, patching, migrations, performance analysis and technical troubleshooting

SAP Solution Manager: Hands-on experience with SAP Solution Manager 7.2, particularly Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure, Technical Monitoring and related monitoring capabilities

Change Request Management: Experience configuring and enhancing SAP ChaRM, including transport management, retrofit processes, project cycles and release cycles

SAP Cloud ALM: Experience supporting SAP Solution Manager to SAP Cloud ALM migration initiatives, including SAP Cloud ALM for Implementation, monitoring and alert management capabilities, and adoption of Cloud ALM application lifecycle management processes

Observability & Tooling: Experience implementing enterprise observability and monitoring solutions across SAP landscapes, with expertise in Dynatrace, PowerConnect and related engineering toolchains. Ability to deliver end-to-end visibility, proactive issue detection, performance optimisation and operational excellence.
