About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a General Practitioner to join our Primary Care team at HMP Altcourse, a Category B men’s prison and young offenders institution located in the Fazakerley area of Liverpool, Merseyside. Ideal applicants are experienced GPs who have previously prescribed and supported patients with substance‑misuse needs. The role is fast‑paced and involves working closely with a full multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality patient care.

Hours

We offer flexible working and are happy to discuss individual days or a combination of days to suit your needs.

Monday: 08:00 – 21:00

Tuesday: 17:00 – 21:00

Thursday: 08:00 – 21:00

Friday: 14:00 – 18:00

Salary

You’ll receive an annual salary between £114,763 and £125,135 per annum (FTE), depending on experience.

Candidates are required to have a legal right to work in the UK and, due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.

What you’ll be doing

Deliver first‑class healthcare to a diverse group of patients and further develop your knowledge in areas usually not encountered in general practice or an A&E environment.

Provide clinical assessment and diagnosis, and make timely decisions regarding future management.

Act as a highly specialist resource to other members of the healthcare team on site and engage actively in clinical governance and effectiveness activities.

Requirements

MBChB or MBBS

Inclusion on the GMC Register and GP Performers List

Evidence of engagement with annual appraisal

Experience working as a GP in community general practice

Evidence of continuing professional development

Ability to work with patients with a history of substance misuse

RCGP Certificate in Substance Misuse 1 and 2, or prepared to undertake these qualifications
