Payroll Manager

Job Description

Payroll Manager – £55,000 to £60,000 + Benefits – Twyford, Berkshire – (5 days on site)

FryerMiles is delighted to be partnering with an independent healthcare sector organisation in Berkshire, who are recruiting a Payroll Manager to support on a permanent basis during an exciting period.

Reporting to the CFO, the Payroll Manager will be the strategic lead for a complex, large scale payroll operation. The role will take ownership of the end-to-end payroll function for a large workforce, overseeing payroll operations, compliance and process improvements.

Working closely with senior leadership, the Payroll Manager will drive efficiency, maintain strong governance and controls, and lead a small payroll team to ensure high standards of service and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end payroll function for 3,500–4,000 employees across multiple entities.
  • Manage and develop a payroll team of 3, including a Payroll Supervisor.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing across hourly and monthly payroll cycles.
  • Partner with the CFO to maintain compliance and drive payroll process improvements.
  • Oversee payroll controls, reporting, and adherence to UK payroll legislation.

Skills Required

  • Strong payroll leadership experience within high-volume environments.
  • Solid knowledge of complex pay structures (hourly and salaried).
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work hands‑on in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Experience managing large payrolls (3,000+ employees).
  • Experience within multi‑entity organisations.
  • Immediate availability or a short notice period advantageous.
