About Discovery
At Discovery, we're proud to support people across Somerset and Cornwall to live the lives they choose. When you join us, you're not just starting a new job — you're becoming part of a friendly, dedicated team that puts people at the heart of everything we do. You'll have the satisfaction of knowing you're making a real difference every single day, and in return we'll make sure your career can be the best it can be through excellent training, development opportunities and colleague benefits.
There's no such thing as a “typical” Support Worker here. Our teams are made up of people from all backgrounds — from school leavers who want to start a meaningful career, to those looking for a change, to experienced support workers who want to work somewhere that genuinely values the people it supports.
What connects every one of them is a shared motivation: the desire to help people live well, learn new things, and take steps towards greater independence. Our support workers don't see what they do as “just another job” — they see it as a chance to brighten someone's day, champion someone's choices, and be part of moments that matter.
Thanks to our amazing teams, Dimensions Group has been accredited as a Great Place to Work for 2026 — our eighth consecutive year of recognition
About the role
As a Support Worker at The Maples, you'll be supporting five people to live active, fulfilling lives in a warm and welcoming home. This role involves providing close, personal and dignified support, including assistance with personal care such as showering and toileting. Four of the people you support use wheelchairs and slings, so you'll be confident using mobility equipment and have a reasonable level of fitness to help people get out and about safely.
The people we support love to stay active and try new things. From trips to Longleat and swimming sessions, to gardening club, exercise groups, theatre visits, lunches out and trips to the pub, you'll play a key role in encouraging and enabling experiences that bring joy and connection. You'll also help people keep in touch with friends and family, and come up with fun new ideas together.
You'll work 7.5-hour shifts (7am-2.30pm or 2.30pm-10pm), within a supportive team environment. A positive, can-do attitude is essential, along with flexibility and a genuine desire to support people to live life their way.
With a great location close to the park and high street, and a lively, person-centred atmosphere, this is a rewarding role where your support truly matters every day.
About you
You don't need previous experience to become a great Support Worker — what matters most is your attitude. We're looking for people who are patient, positive, kind and genuinely motivated to help others live well. If you're someone who listens, encourages independence, enjoys being part of an active team and isn't afraid of getting stuck in, we'd love to hear from you.
You'll be someone who values dignity, choice and inclusion, and who brings calmness, resilience and creativity to your work — whether that's helping with personal care, supporting communication, joining someone for a favourite activity, or enabling someone to feel safe and confident throughout their day.
Training, Development and Career Opportunities
Working for Discovery is rewarding, meaningful and offers genuine career progression. Within your first 12 weeks, we'll fund and support you to complete the Care Certificate, which is essential for anyone working in health and social care.
You'll have access to a wide range of online and face-to-face training, including specialist courses tailored to the needs of the people you support. Through our City & Guilds accredited qualification centre, you can work towards diplomas and recognised qualifications — and in some cases earn a financial bonus on completion.
Our Learning Connect online platform gives you access to extensive training pathways so you can continue developing your skills throughout your career with us.
