Mechanical Design Engineer - Aerospace

Role Overview

An exciting contract opportunity is available for an experienced Design Engineer to join a leading organisation within the aerospace industry. Based in Filton, this role will support the delivery of innovative wing structure design solutions across the full product lifecycle, from concept development through to in-service support.

The Design Engineer will play a key role in coordinating design activities, managing technical change, and providing leadership across multidisciplinary engineering teams. This contract position offers the opportunity to work on complex programmes within the aerospace industry, helping to drive quality, efficiency, and technical excellence.

Located in Filton, the role includes occasional UK and international travel and offers exposure to cutting-edge projects within the aerospace industry.

Contract opportunity inside IR35

Pay Rate up to £42ph Umbrella

Location: Filton

Hybrid working available

Full-time contract engagement until July 2027 with possible renewal

Occasional UK and international travel

Security clearance: Eligibility to obtain BPSS clearance, including criminal record checks

Responsibilities

Deliver technical design solutions, investigations, and engineering studies in line with airworthiness and regulatory requirements.

Support products throughout the lifecycle, from concept and development through to in-service support.

Provide technical leadership to internal teams and external suppliers, including oversight of design deliverables.

Manage engineering modifications and change activities to achieve project objectives relating to quality, cost, and delivery.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, lead time reduction, and right-first-time delivery.

Collaborate with engineering stakeholders and programme teams to support governance, design reviews, and technical maturity assessments.

Contribute to the successful delivery of complex structural engineering projects.

Skills and Experience

Experience leading design teams, work packages, or complex engineering projects in Aerospace is essential.

Strong background delivering engineering solutions to cost, schedule, and quality targets.

Proficiency with CATIA V5 and associated engineering design toolsets.

Experience using PLM and digital engineering environments, including 3DExperience (3Dx).
