Embedded Software Engineer Yocto/Linux Bristol Area £55,000Location: Bristol AreaSalary: Up to £55,000Job Type: PermanentWorking Pattern: Primarily on-siteIm currently recruiting for an Embedded Software Engineer to join a rapidly growing technology and R&D organisation in the Bristol area.The position will focus on developing embedded Linux systems using Yocto, alongside work involving C/C++, Linux platforms, System-on-Chip devices and communications technologies. Youll contribute to technically challenging R&D programmes spanning research, prototyping, implementation, integration and testing.The RoleAs an Embedded Software Engineer, youll help develop Linux-based software platforms for advanced communications, RF and sensor-processing applications.Responsibilities will include:Developing and maintaining custom embedded Linux distributions using the Yocto ProjectCreating and maintaining Yocto recipes, layers, images and Board Support PackagesConfiguring, building and debugging Linux systems for embedded hardwareDeveloping embedded software using C and C++Supporting Linux kernel, bootloader and device-driver integrationDeveloping software for microprocessors and System-on-Chip devicesIntegrating hardware interfaces, sensors and communications peripheralsSupporting software-defined radio and digital signal-processing applicationsRapidly developing prototypes and pre-production systemsProducing technical requirements, architecture and design documentationSupporting system integration, verification and technical trialsWorking directly with customers to understand requirements and propose effective technical solutionsThe Ideal Embedded Software EngineerYoull ideally have at least three years commercial embedded software experience, including hands-on experience with Yocto and embedded Linux.Relevant experience may include:Yocto Project, BitBake and OpenEmbeddedDeveloping Yocto recipes, layers and custom Linux imagesEmbedded Linux development and debuggingBoard Support Packages and hardware bring-upLinux kernel configuration and developmentBootloaders such as U-BootDevice drivers and low-level hardware interfacesEmbedded C and C++ARM-based microprocessors or System-on-Chip platformsPython or shell scriptingCross-compilation and build systemsGit and continuous integrationSoftware-defined radio, DSP, RF or communications systemsFPGA or VHDL exposure would be advantageousPrototype development, integration and system testingThis position would suit an Embedded Software Engineer, Embedded Linux Engineer, Yocto Engineer, Linux Platform Engineer or Firmware Engineer who enjoys technically challenging R&D work and wants exposure to advanced communications and embedded technologies.If youre looking for an Embedded Linux or Yocto Engineer position in the Bristol area, please apply to discuss the opportunity in more detail.Please note: Candidates must have the permanent right to work in the UK without current or future sponsorship and must be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance.JBRP1_UKTJ
