Computer Numerical Control Programmer

Job Description

Job Description

CNC Applications Engineer / CNC Programmer

West London / Buckinghamshire

Are you a CNC Programmer who wants to work on something more challenging than repetitive, high-volume production? I’m recruiting for a CNC Applications Engineer to join a highly respected, advanced engineering organisation designing and manufacturing complex, safety-critical products.

This is an environment where components are technically demanding, tolerances matter, and the machining isn't straightforward.

You'll sit at the point where engineering design becomes physical manufacture.

Taking 3D models and engineering drawings from the Design team, you'll determine how complex components are actually going to be manufactured – developing the machining strategy, creating CNC programs and toolpaths, selecting appropriate tooling, and then proving and optimising those programs on the machines.

What you'll be doing

  • Creating CNC programs for complex multi-axis machining
  • Programming 5-axis and potentially 6/7-axis CNC machinery
  • Using CAD/CAM to turn engineering designs into effective machining strategies
  • Working from 3D/master models and detailed engineering drawings
  • Taking programs through prove-out on the machine
  • Optimising existing programs to improve cycle times, tool life and manufacturing methods
  • Supporting new products as they move from engineering into manufacture
  • Working closely with Design, Production, Tooling and Inspection/CMM teams
  • Helping develop reliable processes for small-batch, high-value precision components

The role genuinely has ownership. You're not simply being handed a program and asked to run it – you're working out the best way to manufacture the component in the first place. The formal remit includes programming new and existing products, machine prove-out and continuous improvement of machining processes.

What we're looking for:

  • CNC programming
  • 5-axis+ machining experience
  • CAD/CAM experience

You'll ideally come from an environment such as aerospace, defence, motorsport, precision engineering, medical, nuclear or another complex/high-tolerance manufacturing sector.

Experience with Siemens NX and/or Vericut would be particularly valuable, although I'm interested in speaking with strong multi-axis programmers using other high-end CAD/CAM packages too.

Why consider it?

This isn't a CNC role where you'll spend your career making the same parts over and over again.

You'll be joining an established British engineering organisation working on genuinely complex, highly engineered products, with the opportunity to work on challenging components and sophisticated machining technology.

If you're currently a CNC Programmer, CAM Programmer, Offline Programmer, CNC Manufacturing Engineer or Multi-Axis Programmer and want to step into a role with greater technical ownership, I'd be very interested in speaking with you.
