Job Description

SEN Teaching Assistant – Derby

Location: Derby

Contract Type: Full-Time and Part-Time Opportunities

Start Date: Immediate / January 2027

Pay Rate: £80–£105 per day (dependent on experience and responsibilities)

Qualification: Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant SEN experience desirable

Experience: Minimum 6 months’ experience supporting children or young people with SEN in a UK educational or care setting

Overview:

Education Personnel are delighted to be working in partnership with progressive and well-respected schools in Derby to recruit a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant for a position starting immediately or in January 2027. This is an rewarding opportunity for a caring and resilient support professional to work 1:1 or with small groups of pupils with special educational needs (including ASC, ADHD, SEMH, or physical needs).

Key Responsibilities:

* Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with EHCPs or identified SEN needs.

* Assist class teachers by preparing adapted resources and promoting inclusive learning environments.

* Support students with emotional regulation, social communication, and learning routines.

* Track student progress against individual targets and feedback to the SENCo and teaching staff.

* Assist with personal care or physical support needs if required.

The Ideal Candidate:

* Has at least 6 months of experience supporting young people with special needs.

* Is patient, nurturing, resilient, and proactive in the classroom.

* Has strong communication skills and an understanding of SEN strategies (e.g., visual timetables, de-escalation).

* Demonstrates a collaborative approach and willingness to contribute to school life.
