MDA’s international footprint in the UK creates opportunities to work with some of the most exciting space industrial players in the country. Delivering all three business area capabilities in Geointelligence, Robotics & Space Operations, and Satellite Systems, our UK team provides support to our European‑based customers while specializing in the development of advanced space sensors for exploration missions as well as space‑based communication technology. As our presence grows overseas, so does our need for new ambitious team players to help us advance our place in the Universe and beyond.

Responsibilities

Working as part of a multi‑disciplinary team of engineers developing FPGA/ASIC based satellite telecommunication payloads for a variety of orbits

Management of complex hardware development and manufacturing activities

Responsible throughout the hardware product development lifecycle for the specification, design and testing

Detailed circuit design including schematic capture, component selection and electronic simulation

Engineering analysis and documentation (Derating, Worst Case, Reliability, Radiation, EMI/EMC Analysis, FMECA, Power Budget)

Supporting hardware/software/system integration, test, validation and qualification

Directing in‑house and 3rd party PCB layout design teams

Deliver prototype and product quality manufacturing packages

Playing an active role in the leadership of the team

Required Skills and Qualifications

13‑15+ years’ experience in a hardware product design role, in the space or an equivalent high reliability/safety sector

Experience of line management or leading large multi‑functional teams would be an asset

Expertise of high speed digital design and Serdes interconnects

Experience of design and manufacture of complex circuits and multi‑layer (10+) HDI PCBs

Knowledge of LEO/GEO communications payloads

Experience of circuit and PCB design and simulation tools

Specialist knowledge in any of the following areas would be advantageous:

High reliability design and analysis (Space, Military, Automotive, etc.)

RF design and validation

Electronic circuitry radiation effects and mitigation techniques

DC/DC power supply design

Knowledge of environmental, thermal, safety and EMI/EMC standards

Practical use of scripting languages Tcl/Python/Perl etc.
