Technical Manager

Location: Dudley, West Midlands
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 per annum
Hours: Days (44 hours per week)

The Opportunity

Due to continued growth and investment, our client is seeking an experienced Technical Manager to lead its engineering and process improvement activities. Reporting to the Manufacturing Director, you will drive quality improvements, reduce scrap, improve yield, support new product introduction, and lead a team responsible for delivering technical excellence across the foundry. This is a key leadership role within a business investing heavily in technology, automation and future growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Technical Department.
  • Drive scrap reduction, yield improvement and quality initiatives.
  • Lead MAGMASOFT simulation, metrology and 3D scanning activities.
  • Manage tooling control, maintenance and supplier relationships.
  • Evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies and processes.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
  • Coordinate NPI projects and provide technical support for quotations.
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers and subcontractors on technical matters.
  • Manage process control systems, testing and calibration activities.
  • Monitor KPI performance and deliver continuous improvement projects.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor and develop Technical, Engineering and Laboratory teams.
  • Support recruitment, training, performance reviews and succession planning.
  • Maintain skills matrices and improve workforce flexibility.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience in a Technical Manager, Foundry Manager, Senior Process Engineer, Manufacturing Engineering Manager, Metallurgical Manager or similar leadership role.
  • Strong background within foundry, castings, heavy engineering or metals manufacturing environments.
  • Experience of process improvement, yield optimisation and scrap reduction programmes.
  • Knowledge of casting simulation software such as MAGMASOFT.
  • Experience managing technical teams and driving operational performance.
  • Understanding of root cause analysis and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience supporting new product introduction and customer-facing technical activities.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A proactive and hands‑on approach with the ability to drive positive change.
