Lead Software Engineer - Trading Platforms

Salary: £100,000 - 100,000 per year

Requirements

• Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts with experience delivering in a commercial setting.
• Hands‑on experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• Advanced proficiency in Python or Java programming languages and frameworks.
• Ability to independently troubleshoot design and functionality issues.
• Demonstrated ability to problem‑solve in real‑time and handle technical issues with a sense of urgency.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with non‑technical colleagues to understand and address business needs.
• Ability to self‑drive delivery and take ownership end to end.
• Demonstrated experience leading effective use of approved AI‑assisted software development tools, with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
• Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; experience coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption within delivery practices.
• Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security.
• Practical cloud native experience.
• Financial industry experience and familiarity with investment banking products, such as fixed income and derivatives.
• Comfort working across full stack development, particularly with React.
• Exposure to cloud technologies using AWS.
• Familiarity with container orchestration (K8s).

Responsibilities

• Develop, enhance, and support our Trade Execution Platform, which is critical to trading and other business activities.
• Execute creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with the ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems.
• Develop secure and high‑quality production code, and review and debug code written by others.
• Drive team adoption of enterprise‑authorized AI‑assisted engineering practices within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes, while establishing consistent validation standards and promoting reuse of effective patterns across the team.
• Apply knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise‑authorized AI‑assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation.
• Identify opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems.
• Contribute to the wider team culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect.
• Work as part of an agile team to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market‑leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way.
• Conduct critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firms business objectives.
