Twice a week onsite in Peterborough

We're looking for an experienced Senior Database Administrator with deep Microsoft SQL Server expertise and a passion for automation, cloud technologies and modern database engineering practices.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in a cloud-first environment, helping to drive platform reliability, performance, security and continuous improvement.

SQL DBA, key responsibilities:

Manage and optimise Microsoft SQL Server environments across on-premises and Azure platforms

Ensure database performance, availability, security and reliability

Lead backup, recovery, disaster recovery and high-availability initiatives

Troubleshoot complex database and application performance issues, conducting root cause analysis and implementing improvements

Partner with development, infrastructure, cloud and security teams to support platform growth and innovation

Drive database modernisation initiatives, including Database-as-Code, automation and CI/CD adoption

Develop and maintain operational standards, documentation and best practices

Participate in an on-call rotation supporting critical production systems

SQL DBA, key skills:

Strong experience administering Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise environments

Expertise in performance tuning, query optimisation, T-SQL, backup/recovery and Always On Availability Groups

Experience supporting SQL Server workloads in Microsoft Azure

Understanding of database security, governance and compliance best practices

Experience with scripting and automation using Powershell, Python and Bash

Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code concepts

Strong troubleshooting, analytical and communication skill
