Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear | £90k - £120k per yearBackend Software Engineer / Developer (Java) Newcastle onsite to £120kDo you have expertise with backend Java development within finance / trading environments?You could be progressing your career in a senior, hands-on Java Developer role at a scaling FinTech.As a Backend Software Engineer you'll play a key role in a new client engagement to transform a highly complex C++ legacy trading system into a modern Java based application. You'll collaborate with Front Office trading teams as well as other highly skilled software engineers and product teams to deliver robust, secure, real-time trading systems using Java and Claude.Location:You'll join the team in Central Newcastle offices on a fulltime basis (Monday to Friday).About you:You have strong backend, multithreaded Java development experienceYou have a strong knowledge of financial markets and have previous experience of working on trading systemsYou have a good understanding of real-time system development and latencyYou're comfortable using AI tools such as ClaudeYou're collaborative and pragmatic with client facing communication skillsYou're naturally curious and have advanced critical thinking and problem solving skillsAn understanding of C++ would be of benefit but it's not essentialYou have achieved a minimum 2.1 BSc in Computer Science or similar technical discipline from a top tier / Russel Group university, backed by A's at A-levelWhat's in it for you?Alongside a highly competitive package, you'll gain the opportunity to work on technically demanding systems, collaborate with exceptional engineers, and play a meaningful role in the growth of a business that is still small enough for your contributions to have a visible impact.Salary to £120k + Bonus25 days holidaySocial team atmosphere with a range of events
