The Role
The Construction Manager will be responsible for supporting the Business through tendering, planning & developing Substation projects and day to day line management ensuring the highest standards of health & safety, environmental and quality whilst ensuring productivity is achieved at all times. The jobholder will be working in offices and visiting sites across the UK as required as part of an experienced team. Leading and developing teams to ensure that the business requirements are executed and to provide technical support to the tendering team.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, duties will include, but are not limited to:
Manage operational resource requirements on day to day basis across all projects ensuring that there are sufficient resources and authorisations to support the business requirements
Review project requirements and centrally manage resources
Have a clear understanding of resource locations
Responsible for line management of all Lineworker employees
Assist in Human Resource management
Review and approve holiday requests in consultation with project teams
Ensure that all authorisations are relevant and in date
Review and assess competency
Develop and structure training requirements of new and existing employees
Attendance at site walkovers during tender stages
Review of tender documentation particularly in a technical capacity
Provide project programme and information for tendering
Conduct handovers to assist the project execution stage
Undertake role of Construction Manager on projects during peaks if required
Essential Skills and Competencies
Experience, knowledge and application of the utilities/construction industry.
Experience in a similar role
Industry recognised Engineering or Safety qualification
Technical experience in Substation construction methods and procedures
Experience of managing and developing people
Ability to understand Substation technical documentation
Sound knowledge of tender processes
Possess the ability to work in a time pressured environment
Be able to multitask
Must have strong communication skills
Ability to work under own initiative
Proficient in computer applications including MS Excel and Project
General
The location of this role is flexible, but the successful candidate must be willing to travel to meet project and business requirements. A competitive salary and benefits package will apply.
