SENIOR SOFTWARE DEVELOPER

£55,000 - £65,000Chesterfeild - hybrid (2-3 days per week on-site)SQL Server, T-SQL, Microsoft Access, VBA

THE ROLE

A hands-on Senior Software Developer is needed to join a small in-house development team supporting a bespoke, business-critical system. You'll learn the platform from the people who built it, strengthen and extend it, and play a key part in shaping how it evolves as the business plans its next steps.

My client is a well-established, successful business whose operations run on an in-house system built on SQL Server with a Microsoft Access front end. They're investing in their technology team and taking a pragmatic approach to modernisation: keep what works, improve it steadily, and decide the future direction with the right people on board.

THE SENIOR SOFTWARE DEVELOPER ROLE

Develop, support and enhance a complex SQL Server-backed system with a Microsoft Access front endWrite and optimise T-SQL, including stored procedures, views and queriesMaintain and extend Access/VBA code across a large existing codebaseBuild a deep understanding of the system, working closely with the Head of Systems and the wider teamContribute ideas on how the platform should be modernised over timeBring good development practice to the team, such as source control, documentation and testing

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

Strong commercial experience with SQL Server and T-SQLCommercial experience with Microsoft Access and VBAConfident working in a large, complex existing codebaseA pragmatic approach to legacy systems, improving what's there rather than rewriting from scratchExperience with other languages or platforms (e.g. C#/.NET, Python) would be a strong advantage
