Job Description

Support Worker – MacIntyre Picture a Tuesday afternoon. Maybe it's a swim, maybe it's cooking together, maybe it's catching the bus into town for a coffee and your job is to be alongside them for it. That's what support work looks like at MacIntyre. You're matched to one service, where you get to know the people who draw on our support: their humour, what winds them up, what a good day looks like to them specifically. Some shifts are about celebrating something someone has worked hard for. Others are quieter, just being a steady, reassuring presence while they push themselves through something uncomfortable. Underneath all of it is the same idea: helping people live lives that make sense to them, connected to their community, built around their own choices and interests. We call it a gloriously ordinary life, and it's what MacIntyre exists to make possible. You don't need a background in care to do this well. If you've spent years behind a bar, on a shop floor, at a hotel desk, or in a warehouse, you've already built the instincts that matter here: reading a room, keeping calm, treating people with patience and respect. If you have worked in health and social care, you'll already know how much staffing and time pressures shape what a shift really looks like, and how much better it is to work somewhere that gives you room to actually build relationships instead of racing the clock. Whichever camp you're in, we'll get you the rest of the way: full training from your first day, and a fully funded Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care. Still weighing it up? Call us for a no-obligation chat on 01908 357016. We're happy to answer any questions and help you figure out if MacIntyre is the right fit for you. Someone's next chapter is waiting for the right person to walk alongside them. This could be you. #IND About you Of course we welcome you if you've been a care assistant or support worker, but experience isn't necessary. If you share our values, are warm, friendly and willing to learn, you're likely to be a great fit. We're looking for people who celebrate differences, and we strive to make all our staff feel included, valued and respected. About us MacIntyre is a national charity supporting more than 1,400 children, young people and adults who have a learning disability or are autistic. For 60 years, we've worked alongside people to build lives filled with opportunity, connection and belonging. Whatever your role, you'll help make that possible. Learn and grow with us Wherever you're starting from, we'll help you succeed. You'll receive a full induction, a mix of online and face-to-face training, and mentoring from experienced colleagues while you learn the role. As your career develops, you'll have access to ongoing learning, professional qualifications where relevant, and opportunities to progress, all fully supported by MacIntyre.
