Your Next Challenge
Are you ready to advance your career and contribute to groundbreaking audio technology? Join our Product Development team in Edinburgh as an Embedded Systems Engineer and be instrumental in designing the embedded software for our next-generation wireless audio systems.
You will use your hands‑on Wi-Fi experience, alongside broader knowledge of wireless communication protocols, to support the development of high-performing embedded systems.
Responsibilities
Develop and optimise embedded software that integrates with hardware, firmware, and wireless communication technologies, with a focus on performance, reliability, and system-level behaviour.
Integrate, evaluate, and refine wireless communication protocols and protocol stacks within embedded software development.
Analyzes industry-standard digital wireless communications protocols (e.g. Wi-Fi / Bluetooth / DECT / PWT) for potential use in pro‑audio applications.
Adapts and integrates industry standard digital wireless communications stacks (e.g. Wi‑Fi / Bluetooth / DECT / PWT) into Shure products and technologies
Integrates real-time operating systems (Linux / Open RTOS / VxWorks) into embedded firmware applications
Integrates and tests proprietary and non‑proprietary networking communication protocols into platform independent object oriented embedded firmware, including common physical, datalink, network and transport layer protocol standards such as 802.3 (Ethernet), AISG, USB, TCP/UDP, IP.
Debug and resolve embedded software issues in wireless communication environments, including protocol, connectivity, and system integration challenges.
Collaborate with hardware and wireless engineers to support system design, software integration, and technical issue resolution.
Support product and platform development using both wired and wireless network protocols.
Work as part of an agile, cross‑functional development team to support embedded software design, implementation, and integration across Shure products.
Contribute to architecture design using UML and established development methodologies.
Review design and code and mentor junior engineers when appropriate.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field;
6+ years’ experience in embedded systems development.
Proven experience with wireless protocols such as Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, or DECT.
Knowledge of networking protocols such as Ethernet, TCP/IP
Proficiency in C++ and object-oriented design principles in embedded firmware development
Ability to design modular, maintainable software architectures with clear interfaces.
Experience with embedded operating systems and leveraging hardware capabilities.
Strong analytical skills and sound engineering judgment.

Pay Transparency
Shure offers a competitive compensation structure that is reviewed annually to attract, hire, and retain the industry’s top talent. Salaries vary based on qualifications, location, experience, and expertise in each respective discipline. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum salary for the opportunity. The salary for this position ranges from GBP 49,300 to GBP 78,900.
If your salary expectations do not align, we might be flexible on the seniority of posted positions. All positions also include a comprehensive benefits package.
