Job Description

SEN Teaching Assistant - Driver Required - Long Term

Aspire People are recruiting on behalf of a specialist SEN school for a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join their team on a long-term basis.

This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday, 5 days per week, and the successful candidate MUST be able to drive due to the location of the school.

The school provides personalised education and support for children and young people aged 8-18 with Special Educational Needs, including pupils with severe learning difficulties and complex additional needs.

This is a specialist setting supporting young people who may present with complex behaviours and require a high level of individualised support. Some pupils may have experienced significant trauma or adverse childhood experiences, so the ability to build trusting relationships and provide calm, consistent support is essential.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other professionals to provide personalised support to pupils throughout the school day.

You will play an important role in helping students engage with education, develop their confidence and independence, and make progress towards their individual goals.

Your responsibilities may include:

Providing one-to-one and small-group support.

Supporting pupils with severe learning difficulties and complex needs.

Helping students access personalised learning activities.

Supporting communication, social development and independence.

Encouraging positive behaviour and helping pupils manage challenging situations.

Building positive, trusting relationships with students.

Providing consistent boundaries and reassurance.

Supporting pupils who may have experienced trauma or adverse childhood experiences.

Working closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals.

Supporting students with their daily routines and transitions.

Contributing to a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment.

The successful candidate will be patient, resilient and compassionate, with a genuine commitment to supporting young people with additional needs.

Previous experience working within an SEN school, specialist education setting, residential care, youth work, social care or a similar environment would be highly desirable.
