Test & Commissioning Engineer

£28,000-£36,000 DOE

Hook

We are looking for a Test & Commissioning Engineer to join a specialist manufacturing environment producing advanced testing equipment. This is a hands-on engineering role with a strong focus on electro-mechanical testing, fault-finding, calibration and commissioning. You will work with equipment incorporating sensors, transducers, actuators, control electronics and electro-mechanical or hydraulic systems, ensuring products meet the required operational and performance standards before being delivered to customers.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out electro-mechanical assembly of specialist testing equipment using engineering drawings, build documentation and work instructions.

Perform functional and performance testing, calibration and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).

Test and commission systems incorporating sensors, transducers, actuators, control electronics and hydraulic components.

Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical and electronic faults during assembly, testing and commissioning.

Apply structured fault-finding techniques to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.

Escalate complex or unresolved technical issues to senior engineering colleagues with clear diagnostic information.

Complete accurate test, calibration and quality documentation in accordance with established procedures.

Work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality and Technical Support teams to ensure smooth progression of equipment from build through to despatch.

Support the planning and prioritisation of testing and commissioning activities.

Follow all Health & Safety procedures and report hazards, near misses and non-conformances appropriately.

Develop a working knowledge of principles and how they relate to the equipment being tested.

Identify opportunities to improve testing, assembly and commissioning processes.About You

We are particularly interested in engineers with experience of:

Electro-mechanical systems

Sensors and transducers

Actuators and motors

Hydraulic systems

Electrical and electronic systems

Testing, calibration or commissioning

Reading engineering drawings and schematics

Structured fault-finding and diagnosticsExperience within geotechnical, laboratory or scientific equipment would be advantageous but is not essential.

Essential Requirements

HNC/HND, relevant engineering apprenticeship, or equivalent practical engineering experience.

Practical experience diagnosing and resolving mechanical, electrical and/or electronic faults.

Experience with, or a strong aptitude for learning, sensors, transducers and electro-mechanical/hydraulic systems.

Ability to read and work from technical or engineering drawings.

Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

A methodical and practical approach to testing and problem-solving.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.Desirable Experience

Previous experience in testing, commissioning or manufacturing.

Experience with specialist laboratory, scientific or testing equipment.

Knowledge of geotechnical testing equipment or principles.

Experience of Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and calibration.

Full UK driving licence.Salary & Benefits

Salary: £28,000-£36,000 depending on experience

38-hour working week

Early finish at 3:00pm on Fridays
