Senior Embedded Software Engineer

Job Description

Metric Bio are proud to continue supporting one of our longest-standing partners, a pioneering medical device company whose technology is directly saving lives. Their platform has already been used in over 7,000 life-critical transplant procedures worldwide. Backed by a global healthcare leader and spun out of a world-renowned UK university, this is a rare chance to write software that genuinely matters.They are looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join a close-knit engineering team in Oxford, contributing across the full SDLC from BSP and drivers through to control algorithms, CI/CD, and the rigorous design documentation required in a regulated environment.What you will be doing:Designing and developing embedded software for a Class II/III medical deviceOwning requirements, traceability, and DHF documentation to IEC 62304 and ISO 14971 standardsImplementing and optimising RTOS based multi-tasking systems such as SafeRTOSWorking with communication protocols including I2C, SPI, UART, USB, Ethernet and CANActively contributing to CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, TDD and BDD practicesCollaborating with Electronics, Systems, Data Science, QARA and Field Service teamsSupporting complaint resolution, root cause analysis and continuous improvementWhat we are looking for:Strong C/C++ skills with experience in safety critical or regulated embedded systemsHands on experience with microcontrollers, MCUs and HAL developmentFamiliarity with tools such as IAR, Git, Bitbucket, Azure CI/CD, Jira and UML toolsExposure to requirements management tools such as Codebeamer, Polarion or JamaA track record of delivering to IEC 62304 or an equivalent regulated frameworkDegree in Computer Science or a relevant engineering discipline
