Electronic Design Engineer

Job Description

Our client is an exciting, fast-growing IoT company building connected hardware products deployed in demanding real-world environments. They're a small, generalist engineering team where everyone gets stuck in across disciplines rather than being siloed, and they're in a market expected to grow significantly over the next decade.

This is a hands-on hardware role. You'll be designing electronic hardware for IoT edge devices, with real ownership from concept through to manufacture.

What you'll be doing:

  • Designing embedded electronic hardware for IoT edge systems: microcontrollers, memory, power management, sensors, comms interfaces
  • Producing schematics and PCB layouts, maintaining design files and documentation
  • Selecting and qualifying components against performance, reliability, availability, cost and lifecycle
  • Designing and optimising low-power, battery-powered systems for long-life field deployment
  • Integrating wired and wireless comms interfaces and radio modules
  • Leading prototype bring-up, debugging and board-level fault finding
  • Working with Hardware QA on verification, validation, environmental and compliance testing
  • Supporting manufacturing and supply chain activity, including pilot builds and supplier engagement
  • Contributing to DFT, DFM and DFR initiatives
  • Investigating and resolving hardware issues across development, production and field deployment

What they're looking for:

  • Degree in Electronic Engineering or related discipline
  • 3+ years in embedded hardware or electronics design
  • Strong component selection, microcontroller and sensor interfacing experience
  • Schematic capture and PCB design/layout experience
  • Proven low-power/battery system design and optimisation
  • Experience integrating comms modules
  • In-circuit test, JTAG and hardware debugging tool experience
  • Strong hands-on prototyping and breadboarding skills
  • Good grasp of EMI/EMC, signal integrity and power integrity principles
