About the role:

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our engineering team building our unique Lombard lending platform, for use by both Firenze and our SaaS clients. You will balance hands‑on technical leadership with people and delivery management, staying close to the code while owning how your team plans, tracks, and communicates its delivery. This is an exceptional opportunity to shape both the platform and the team building it.

This role requires a strong engineering background with the credibility to review code, guide architectural decisions and define the development approach for solutions across your team. You will collaborate closely with Product and Engineering Leadership and internal stakeholders to ensure delivery is planned realistically, tracked accurately, and communicated transparently across the business.

The ideal candidate combines deep engineering expertise with strong delivery ownership and stakeholder management skills and can move comfortably between shaping technical direction and reporting on progress to the wider business.

Key responsibilities

• Stay hands‑on with the codebase through regular code reviews, providing thoughtful feedback on quality, consistency, and best practice.
• Collaborate on architectural design decisions, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and maintainable.
• Define the development approach for new solutions, working with engineers to agree patterns, trade‑offs and technical direction before delivery begins.
• Own technical delivery planning for your team, breaking down work, estimating effort, and setting realistic timelines.
• Manage your team’s day‑to‑day priorities and focus, balancing planned delivery work against unplanned issues, dependencies, and shifting business needs.
• Track and report on delivery progress, proactively resurfacing risks, blockers, and trade‑offs.
• Engage regularly with stakeholders across the business to ensure delivery status, risks, and priorities are communicated clearly and transparently.
• Lead, coach, and develop engineers through 1:1s, career development, and performance feedback.
• Partner with stakeholders to align technical roadmaps with business priorities.
• Champion engineering best practices, including testing, observability, and CI/CD across your team.
• Contribute to a strong engineering culture of ownership, curiosity, and continuous improvement.

Required skills and experience

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years managing or leading an engineering team. Fintech experience desirable.
• Strong, credible technical background with the ability to actively participate in code reviews and architectural discussions.
• Proven experience defining development approaches and technical standards for a team.
• Track record of owning technical delivery planning, including estimation, sequencing, and risk management.
• Experience reporting on delivery progress to non‑technical stakeholders in a clear, transparent way.
• Solid understanding of cloud‑native, microservices‑based architectures and modern software engineering practices.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical detail for a business audience.
• Experience mentoring and developing engineers, with a genuine interest in growing people as well as systems.

Competitive salary:(£90,000 – £115,000) depending on experience, plus equity participation.
