Recruiter: Natasha

About this client/child: Harry (15) is an active teenager, who lives at home with his Mum and Dad. He has a twin brother (15), who attends a residential school during term time, and he will be part of this loving household during the school holidays. Harry loves playing on his Nintendo and iPad, watching Disney films, going for walks, and taking day trips out to the Cinema, Museums and Chessington World of Adventure. Harry is on the Autistic spectrum, and he also has anxiety, he needs support with his independence, communication, social and functional skills. He is quite independent already, and mostly needs verbal prompting and some encouragement to complete his daily living tasks. Harry doesn’t like fireworks, bad weather, thunderstorms, and changes to his routine, though his strong emotions around these things are well managed when approached with sensitivity. Harry’s brother is also on the Autistic spectrum and will have his own Support Workers when he is at home during school holidays.

Overview of role: Days during term time start at 3.30pm and involve a school pick-up for Harry, his school is in Fulham SW6, and a nice walk home (weather permitting). These walks are a great opportunity to build rapport with Harry, and this will be key to establishing a trusting and engaging relationship. Once home, Harry requires support and encouragement to complete his homework. Then, it’s dinner and relaxing. Harry likes to relax with his iPad. Then, encouraging Harry to complete his evening routine. During school holidays, Harry’s Support Worker will be proactive in finding and arranging activities and day trips for Harry, based around his current interests, and expanding on his interests by finding new things to do too. Harry’s brother will also be at home during these times, and there will be occasions where you will involve him in activities, alongside his Support Workers, so being happy to work in a team is important. Occasionally Harry’s parents go away, usually during term-time, and it would be great if Harry’s new support worker could provide some proxy parenting on these occasions. There is a double bedroom with an en suite available to use when providing proxy parenting.

Who this job would suit: This job will suit someone with good experience supporting a young person with ASC and anxiety, perhaps a student, who is looking for additional hours around their studies. A non-smoker/vaper, and someone who is creative, unflappable, and enthusiastic.

What’s great about this job: Fantastic training opportunities, with a thorough handover, from long-standing members of staff who know Harry and his family very well. Flexibility around days worked to accommodate studies or other commitments.

Who is recruiting for this role? Snap Care will be carrying out all recruitment including shortlisting, recruiter interviews and arranging employer interviews
