Payroll Manager

Salary: Up to £50,000 + annual bonus

Location: Harrow, North West London

Working Pattern: Hybrid - 4 days office / 1 day home

This is a great opportunity for an experienced payroll professional to join a growing accountancy practice, taking ownership of a busy client payroll portfolio. You'll be the main point of contact for UK payroll clients, ensuring payrolls are delivered accurately and on time, while working closely with an offshore support team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 500 client payrolls (most with 1-50 employees).
  • Process end-to-end weekly, monthly and annual payrolls, including statutory payments, pensions and auto-enrolment.
  • Act as the main escalation point for payroll queries from clients, HMRC and pension providers.
  • Review payroll work completed by the offshore support team and ensure accuracy before submission.
  • Maintain payroll compliance and keep up to date with UK payroll legislation.
  • Build strong client relationships and identify opportunities to enhance the service provided.
  • Support the onboarding of new payroll clients and help improve payroll processes.

Ideal Candidate

  • Strong UK end-to-end payroll experience within a payroll bureau or accountancy practice.
  • Confident managing a large client portfolio independently.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of UK payroll legislation, pensions and statutory payments.
  • Experience using payroll systems such as BrightPay, Sage or Xero would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build client relationships.
  • Supervisors, Team Leaders, Payroll Specialists or Payroll Managers with bureau experience will all be considered.
