Senior Consultant, EIA

Manchester, England, United Kingdom

Since 2018, Turley have invested significantly in their EIA capabilities under the leadership of Andy Ricketts with a vision to deliver an EIA service that is different to market competitors, one focused around the management and resolution of impacts through design and using EIA as a project risk management tool.

In 2024, we are now a team of eleven EIA Practitioners with a national reputation for our service amongst peers, the legal profession, and clients. We are all genuinely enthusiastic and passionate about our specialist subject area and are able to apply detailed multidisciplinary knowledge to the approach, scope and deliverables associated with EIA, interconnecting consents and licenses. We are trusted advisors to many clients who seek our strategic advice to navigate the EIA Regulations and deliver projects which are better for the environment.

We work dynamically as a national team and are collaborative with the wider Turley team providing a single unified service across planning, EIA, sustainability and strategic engagement/communication.

We are looking for our next Team member and EIA Practitioner and this is a great opportunity to flourish, realise your potential and develop your career at the speed you want to, with some of the best technical mentoring, coaching and training in the industry.

About the role

We proactively lead, control and manage the EIA process from strategy to delivery and identify and manage risks as an integral part of our service. The underpinning principles of our service are:

Diligent identification and management of project risk.

Commerciality – providing alternative options and solutions which may reduce overall project cost or programme.

Proportionality – doing only what is required for the purposes of EIA.

Work collaboratively with the planning, design and technical teams to resolve environmental impacts early.

Technical competence.

The role of a Senior Consultant, EIA includes the following:

Preparation of proposals and client engagement.

Principle lead and project manager for EIA teams, coordinating them and providing comprehensive advice to the client and project team.

Development of EIA strategies to help a client and project team navigate the requirements of EIA and identify and manage the risks from the outset.

Principle author of EIA Screening Reports and EIA Scoping Reports, often working interactively with the wider design and project team to identify and reduce/resolve environmental impacts.

Lead Cumulative Impact Assessment, prepare other parts of Environmental Statements (including Environmental Management Plans) and prepare programmes, technical notes and risk registers.

Provide the first review of technical assessments within the Environmental Statement.

Contribution to the wider development of the EIA team in terms of technical development, innovation and ways of working.

Contribution to wider Turley business initiatives such as business strategy and improvement, charitable trusts or national events.

You will always work collaboratively and be supported by a Project Director, with support to you from an Assistant Project Manager.

If you have a strong workplace experience in the field of EIA (supported by relevant technical qualifications), have a genuine passion/enthusiasm for EIA, and are interested in taking your practitioner skills to the next level – we would like to hear from you.

We would like for you to be able to demonstrate excellent analytical and communication skills both through report-writing and verbal advice.

This role is open to full time or part time working and all locations.

Alice Wells, Senior Consultant, EIA provides the following insight:

‘ Working in the EIA team at Turley has given me great opportunities to develop my consultancy skills and be involved in our increasingly diverse range of projects. We have a collective focus on delivering high-quality products and advice in EIA, but are also lucky to have a strong team culture. Some of my highlights from my last four years at Turley have been at our regular national conferences and team events, which have been invaluable for developing connections across the growing EIA team and the wider business’ .

Why work for Turley?

We are trusted independent advisors working collaboratively with our clients to shape a more sustainable future. We are an Employee owned company, with open and transparent leadership and actively involve co-owners in the future of our business. We are not driven by providing profits to shareholders and therefore our profits provide our business with resilience, the ability to invest in people and provide direct financial reward from profit to co-owners.

We offer excellent remuneration and a flexible benefits package including medical insurance, pension, flexible working allowance, ownership dividend and performance-related bonus.

Turley operates a blended flexible working model, allowing co-owners choice, freedom, and flexibility as to where, when and how they work, balancing personal, team and client requirements. We are happy to talk about flexible working options in more detail during the recruitment process.

We know that actions speak louder than words. As a business, and through our client work, we strive to make a meaningful impact. This is how we are shaping a more sustainable future.

We have been CarbonNeutral® certified since 2018; achieved Bronze Carbon Literate Organisation accreditation in 2023; and are working towards B Corp status.

Driven by our purpose, we believe in using business as a force for good, including generating value for our clients and profits for our co-owners.

Our aim is to be an even more diverse and inclusive company; we celebrate difference and we're actively building more diverse teams. We welcome applications from candidates regardless of background and personal circumstances who meet the criteria set out above. We would love for you to join an organisation that enables you to thrive. If you need any assistance during the recruitment process or we can put in any adjustments for you, please contact Turley’s People & Culture team ([email protected]).

If you think that Turley could be the right move for you, please apply in confidence by following the Apply Now link or email [email protected], providing your CV and a covering letter.
