We are seeking a dynamic and strategic R&D Manager to spearhead our local and cross-sell product development initiatives, enhancing our technological capabilities and competitive edge.

Location: Gateshead Team Valley UK.

Reports to: Director of R&D and Process

Direct Reports: NPD Technologist, Graduate Development Technologist, Senior Development Technologist.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and manage development projects from concept through to delivery.

Act as the principal development contact internally and externally.

Oversee projects through the C2L system, ensuring accurate records and timely delivery.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align development timelines and launch targets.

Monitor product costs and recommend corrective actions where needed.

Drive innovation through ingredient research, process improvements, and value engineering.

Ensure all new products meet legal, safety, and customer standards.

Contribute to commercial and category strategies with a strong focus on food and innovation.

Represent BI UK at awards, events, and exhibitions.

Skills and Experience:

Degree/HND in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related field.

Proven experience leading an NPD function in a similar sector.

Strong track record of delivering innovative products to market.

Deep understanding of food safety, HACCP, and sensory analysis.

Excellent communication, organisational, and influencing skills.

Proficient in IT and project management tools.

Experience across multiple market channels (Retail Own Brand, Brand, Co-manufacturing).

Familiarity with Clarizen or similar project management systems.
