Software Engineer - Python / Front EndLocation: Bristol - 2 days per week in the office£50,000 - £70,000The OpportunityWe're working with an innovative, technology-led organisation that is building sophisticated software platforms at the intersection of software engineering, data science, analytics and risk.They are looking for a Software Engineer with around 2-3 years' professional experience to join a highly skilled and collaborative engineering team.This is a fantastic opportunity for a developer who is strongest on the backend but enjoys working across the stack and wants to broaden their technical skill set.You'll primarily work with Python and FastAPI, developing APIs and data-intensive backend services, while also contributing to modern frontend applications and user-facing features.You'll work closely with experienced engineers, data scientists and subject-matter experts to build products that solve complex, real-world problems.What You'll Be DoingDeveloping and maintaining backend services using Python and FastAPIDesigning and building robust REST APIsContributing to frontend applications using TypeScriptIntegrating frontend applications with backend services and data sourcesBuilding interactive dashboards, charts and data visualisationsWorking with PostgreSQL and ORM technologies such as SQLAlchemyDeveloping reliable, scalable and high-performance applicationsWorking with cloud-native technologies, particularly Google Cloud Platform (GCP)Contributing to automated testing, CI/CD and code review processesWriting clean, maintainable and well-documented codeCollaborating with engineers, data scientists and other technical specialistsHelping integrate analytical and data-driven capabilities into production softwareWhat We're Looking ForYou’ll ideally have:2-3 years' professional software engineering experienceStrong commercial experience with PythonExperience with FastAPI or a similar modern Python web frameworkSome experience with TypeScript and frontend developmentGood understanding of REST APIs and frontend/backend integrationExperience working with relational databases, ideally PostgreSQLExperience working within a cloud environment - GCP would be particularly beneficialGood understanding of Git, automated testing, CI/CD and clean coding practicesStrong problem-solving skills and an interest in working with data-intensive applicationsA collaborative approach and good communication skillsDesirable ExperienceExperience with any of the following would be advantageous:Angular, React or VueChart.js, D3.js or other data visualisation toolsDatabricks, Apache Spark or distributed data processingDocker, Kubernetes or Cloud RunTerraform or other infrastructure-as-code technologiesGPU or accelerated computing technologies such as CUDA, CuPy or NumbaNumerical or high-performance computingInsurance, finance, risk, analytics or other data-intensive environmentsWhy Join?This is an opportunity to join a small, highly capable engineering team where you'll have genuine exposure to a broad range of technologies and challenging technical problems.You’ll have the opportunity to develop your experience across:Python * FastAPI * TypeScript * Cloud * Data Engineering * Data Visualisation * APIs * High-Performance ComputingRather than being confined to a single area, you'll be encouraged to develop across the stack and work alongside specialists in engineering, data science and analytics.If you're a Python developer looking for a role where you can build interesting products, work with modern technology and continue developing technically, this could be a great next step.
